How to import and export transaction notes

Since the BitBox Ritom update (v4.43.0), there is a new option to import and export transaction notes and account names directly from within the BitBoxApp. As transactions notes and account names are not synced with the BitBox02, they will be effectively reset whenever you use the BitBoxApp for the first time on a different device or in general after a complete reinstallation of the BitBoxApp.

To restore your notes and account names on a different host device, you can export them on your previous BitBoxApp installation and re-import them on the new installation. You can also use the export feature to effectively create a backup of your transaction notes and account names.

Export notes

To export your transaction notes, follow these steps:
  • Connect and unlock your BitBox02 (you can skip this if you have remember wallet enabled for your accounts).
  • Click on "Settings" and stay on the "General" page
  • Scroll down and click "Export notes"
  • A dialogue from your operating system will open, choose a desired destination path and click "Save".
The exported text file contains all necessary information to restore your account names and transaction notes. Either save it or transfer it to another device.

Note: While the exported file does not contain security relevant information, it still contains sensitive information in terms of privacy. Do not share it publically and keep it somewhere safe, as anyone with access to this file can see your entire transaction history, accounts and read your translation notes.

Import notes

To import your transaction notes, follow these steps:
  • Connect and unlock your BitBox02 (you can skip this if you have remember wallet enabled for your accounts).
  • Click on "Settings" and stay on the "General" page
  • Scroll down and click "Import notes"
  • A dialogue from your operating system will open, select the previously saved text file and click "Open".
Your transaction notes and account names are now restored.
